Home Made Gift Classic - Brownie Mix In-A-Jar

If you're late in ordering a gift basket fear not for home made gifts can be made with lots of love....
My ultimate favorite is a Brownie Mix In-A-Jar....  So easy and simple to do but makes a great impact.....

What to Do
Start with a spare a mason jar and your favorite brownie recipe. Put all of the dry ingredients into the jar. Then, write down the non-dry ingredients (eggs, butter, vanilla, etc.) and their proper amounts onto a small slip of paper along with the baking instructions and attach it to the jar. Use a ribbon and bow to put the finishing touches on the gift.

Choose one of the recipes and purchase the necessary ingredients.

Chewy Chocolate Brownie Mix in a Jar
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon baking soda
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 3/4 to 1 cup chopped nuts - you can use pecans or walnuts
  • 1 cup of semisweet chocolate chips
Mix together flour, baking powder and salt in a small bowl. Layer the ingredients in a 1-quart mason jar in the following order, sugar (bottom layer), cocoa, flour mixture, and chopped (top layer). Press each layer firmly in place before adding the next layer. Seal jar. Decorate the jar, attach instructions and add a gift tag.

Makes one gift jar.

Tips: Using a wide-mouth canning funnel will make it easier to add ingredients to the jar. After adding the layer of cocoa wipe out the inside of the jar with a dry paper towel to remove the excess powder, so the other layers can be seen clearly through the glass.
